Crochet Basics: From Skein to Scarf

Wow, I can't hardly believe it's actually live, but I have an online crochet class now, y'all!

Crochet Basics: From Skein to Scarf, Online Class through Skillshare

Yep, that's it! It's for brand new beginners but it has two free patterns (which I'll publish separately in the near future, but for now they're available exclusively through the class) and lots of little tips and tricks that I've found useful along the way. I talk through yarn, tools and notions, yarn and hook holds, single and double crochet, finishing off and weaving in ends, whipstitch seaming, pattern reading, briefly touch on gauge, and even some guidelines for customizing your scarf. Whew! Yeah, it's a bit on the long side because of all that, but it's broken up into several segments to make it easier to watch at your convenience and, of course, you have the added benefit of being able to pause or rewind me anytime you want!

I've been considering doing video tutorials to support my patterns for a while now, but when Skillshare contacted me about becoming a teacher with them, it opened up a whole new world of possibilities! It's been a tumultuous month a half since then, ha ha, but it all came together somehow and I am just super excited to be able to share this with you! In fact, for the first 25 people who sign up through this link, enrollment is free!

Take a look at my intro video and tell me what you think!

Getting ready to film the class was a bit nerve wracking, but it gave me a reason to finally get my craft room organized (mostly) and I have to say the filming experience, while exhausting, went really well! The videographers were unexpectedly enthusiastic and I was impressed with their commitment to help bring this video to life. I thought we might all go crazy trying to get through the editing process in a timely manner, but it finally came together in the end!

The videography team was a small one, but I would definitely recommend them! They were patient and encouraging, even through my many 8 months pregnant lady foibles, ha ha. Together, Mason and Davide have over 15 years experience in photo and video production - check out their website here to learn more about what they do!

I've got so many ideas about where I can go next with this and I'm already halfway through planning a second basics class! I'm just not sure when I'll be able to film it with baby set to arrive so soon. If you have any ideas or suggestions about future classes you'd like to see, though, including classes for any of my existing patterns, please share!

In the meantime, happy crocheting!!
