Yarn Mail Unboxing: Indie Untangled Heritage Wool Collective [Gossamer]

When I first saw that my friend Meg from Megs & Co was going to be dyeing up a special colorway for the Heritage Wool Collective from Indie Untangled, I knew right away that I wanted to get my hands on some!

I mean, I just love Meg's work! If you haven't checked out her gorgeous hand-dyed offerings yet, you simply must visit her website: https://www.megsandco.com/

For this collaboration, Meg chose an ephemeral color palette inspired by the delicateness of spring and those little blue moths. It's called Gossamer.

Isn't it pretty!?

I love Meg's inspiration, but it also totally reminds me of the water here in Hawaii. The shift in shade with the varying depths of the water plus that lighter shade that's almost white like the seafoam on a wave rushing in towards the shore. It's just beautiful!

The yarn itself is 70% Spanish Merino wool and 30% linen and it was milled by WoolDreamers in Mota del Cuervo, Spain.

I haven't worked with a wool and linen blend before, so I'm interested to see what it feels like after blocking. I think it will make a nice lightweight shawl that will be perfect for layering on when warm summer days turn to cool, breezy evenings!

Here's a look at my first swatch with it:

I couldn't resist adding some shells into the design!

If you're liking where this is going, pop on over to Patreon for the written instructions, which are currently available as a pattern preview (join me for as little as $2 a month to get access to this as well as several other unpublished crochet patterns!).

Last I looked, there were still some extra skeins of Gossamer available over on Indie Untangled and, of course, if you love Meg's yarn as much as I do, you can shop her regular stock on her website at megsandco.com (her Lilac Festival collection is absolute perfection, by the way, if you haven't seen it yet—especially for you purple lovers).

The third shipment from the Heritage Wool Collective (I missed out on the first one, unfortunately) features Moondrake Co, who will be a new dyer for me! So I'm looking forward to that.

If you're curious to know more about the collective, here's a snippet from the website:

The Heritage Wool Collective is a bi-monthly subscription that combines breed-specific wool yarns with the magic of hand-dyed color. Indie Untangled is working with small farms and mills across the U.S. and around the globe to produce domestically-raised, non-Superwash yarns that will be transformed by a new indie dyer every other month.

I'm looking at this as an opportunity to meet new indie dyers as well as the chance try some new fibers that I might not otherwise select. Yes, it's an investment, so I know this experience isn't for everyone, but I hope you'll enjoy tagging along with me and maybe find some inspiration along the way!

My hope is to create a new crochet pattern with each installment, but not EVERY single skein of yarn speaks to me, of course. We'll see how it goes, though!

You can watch the video unboxing below to see this gorgeous yarn in action.

Don't forget to check out the Heritage Wool Collective subscription box from Indie Untangled if you'd also enjoy trying out some new, breed specific yarns hand-dyed by some fabulous indie dyers!

Oh and the shawl? It's coming along beautifully! It's almost done now.
